Top Tips: Bumping a lock, what does that mean?

Lock bumping is an incredibly well known system used by lawbreakers to open cylinder locks and deadbolt locks by using a uniquely designed key called a bump key or 999/rapping key. This strategy is extremely powerful and grants an enormous assortment of locks to be opened instantly.

  1. With a bump key it’s possible to open a great deal of locks in less than 10 seconds.
  2. Lock bumping is non-damaging: there is no sign of forced entry or harm to a lock when a knock key is used.
  3. A bump key can be made in less than 10 minutes.

An easy way to help defend your home from lock bumping would be to add latches and/or sliding bolts to your door. While this doesn’t stop the locks being bumped open, it does place another thing in the way of would-be thieves who are trying to gain access to your home.
